CHARACTERS:

Kino: Juana´s husband   (poor indigene man)

Coyotito: Kino´s and Juana son (baby)

Juana: Kino´s wife  (poor indigene woman)

Juan Tomas: Kino´s brother

Apolonia: Tomas´ wife

Doctor: a miser cruelty person (fat and lazy)




FEELINGS:




DESCRPTION: The family live in a humble village. Coyotito was stung by a scorpion; Juana wanted to save his life, and she wanted to carry her son to the doctor, but only the doctor, according to the people´s believes, the doctor only would go for money, and they didn’t have it.  Kino went to seek the doctor, but he knows that the doctor was an ambitious man.

A crowd of people went with them seeking from the doctor’ s helps  and when Kino got  home from him , he told  him  not to help people miserable, because  he is a doctor of high class. Kino was desperate and hurt himself, because when he heard those terrible words, he decided to hit the door. Then Kino remembered having in his pocket a paper that indicated the location of a pearl, according to tradition, a great pearl with and incredible value. Kino decided to tell the story about the pearl to the greedy doctor.  And it was there when the doctor decided help him doing a deal: “Coyotito´s life at the pearl value”

Kino is shipped to the sea, and thousands of memories come to mind, including memories of his wise father.


CHARACTERS’ DESCRIPTION
Kino:  was a young strong man with black hair.  His eyes were warm and fierce and bright and his mustache was thin and coarse.
A brave man who always fought  for his family, his values and his traditions

Juana:  She was a young woman, who had black hair and braided it in two braids tied the ends with thin green ribbon. She is so strong, patient, respectful and cheerful woman.

Doctor:  A cruel and greedy person who only thought of himself. He is a fat ugly man


 
Kino´s father:  He appeared in the story through the memories of Kino. He is a man with many folk traditions.

3. Coyotito´s parents are so terrified and they went to seek for the doctor's help

4. People in the village don’t trust in the doctor intentions, because he is a man who doesn’t have any merci for poor people

6. The doctor doesn´t want to help Kino becuase for him indigene people are miserable and unpleasant people.

7. The doctor decides help  Kino as long as Kino brings him  something value

8. Kino is desperate for saving his son life. He hurt himslef

14. Juana tries to cure his child using seaweed and made a flat damp poultice of it and applying to the baby’s swollen shoulder. This remedy doesn´t work.

15. Kino imagines a better future for his familiy with the sale of the pearl

16. In the town people know about  "The pearl". The doctor knows about it and decides to cure Coyotito' wound. The doctor asks Kinos to pay for his medical services.

18. Kino feels a sound inside the house. Someone tried to steal the pearl

19.Juana thought that the pearl was cursed and it was a sin because Kino’s thoughts had changed for it

20. They went to La Paz for selling the pearl

21. People from that  place try to cheat Kino by the price of the pearl

22. Juana says Kino “destroy the pearl before it destroys us “ She decided to throw out the pearl into the sea. Kino was upset, he hits Juana, and he went to recover the pearl

23. He only thinks about Coyotito’s future: when he will grow up, he will read and write

24. Someone tries to steal back the pearl. That person breaks into Kino' s place, but Kino killed him with a knife kills first

 25.Kino, Juana and Coyotito leave the city and hide in the mountains

26. They are pursued by other men to be killed, but Kino kill them first


27. Kino thought his wife was right: "The Pearl brings a curse," The boldness of the sea and this disappeared from their lives.

The bed’ s Spain king
Kino rests in the beds’ Spain king.  This was the bed that had raised the King of Spain to be a great power in Europe in past years, had helped to pay for his wars, and had decorated the churches for his soul's sake.
For centuries men had dived down and torn the oysters from the beds an dripped them open, looking for the coated grains of sand. Swarms of fish lived near the bed to live near the oysters thrown back by the searching men and to nibble at the shining inner shells. But the pearls were accidents, and the finding of one was luck, a little pat on the back by God or the gods or both.
“The song of the family”
The Song of Family is the rhythm that Kino hears in the life of his family, and in their routines. It's the music of their life together and reflects their peaceful interaction with one another, even in silence.
                                                                      
“The song of evil”

The Song of Evil is the thundering that he hears whenever something threatens his family. The Song of Evil plays when the scorpion threatens his son and the thieves attack his family.
